I've always loved fashion photography, and the thing about the fashion industry is that it is highly visual. Fashion photographers are able to change the way we perceive and look at clothing. Many great photographers in history have changed our understanding of masculinity and beauty. Some great photographers have launched the careers of models and designers.
These are the people that keep helping the fashion industry thrive.
Mario Testino
Mario Testino is a Peruan photographer based in London, he has shot for magazines like Vogue and brands like Gucci and Burberry, he has also photographed most if not all the top models of the world and countless celebrities. He's also known for being a photographer for the European royalties, specially the British. He has been named an Official of the Order of the British Empire and received the Gold Medal of the Spanish Institute of Queen Sofia.
Rankin
John Rankin Waddel is one of the most famous names in British fashion photography. He has shot for Nike and created his own magazine. In 2002 he was awarded the Honorary Fellowship by The Royal Photographic Society. He's written multiple books and recorded music videos for artists like Robyn and Iggy Azalea.
Alice Hawkins
Alice Hawkins is a London based photographer that has shot editorials for magazines like Russian Vogue, Vanity Fair and Harper's Bazaar. She has also photographed many celebrities including Donatella Versace and Kanye West. Her work is known for being both sexy and intriguing and she has an amazing use of colour and contrast.
Lindsay Adler
Lindsay Adler's work can be found in Zink Magazine, Fault, Bullet Magazine and Rangefinder Magazine to name a few.
She is an amazing photographer with a specialty in portraits.
She is also a really good author, one of her books, "Fashion Flair for Portrait and Wedding Photography" is considered one of the best photography books as in 2011 it was named one of the best books on Amazon.
Her work has an amazing use of colour, lots of vibrant tones and some incredible fantasy-like pictures.
Steven Meisel
Steven Meisel is an American photographer that has shot countless campaigns for great fashion houses like Versace, Balenciaga and Louis Vuitton, but he really came into fame by shooting a series of covers for American and Italian Vogue. He has photographed every Prada campaign since 2004 and every Italian Vogue cover since 1988.
He has been a protègè for both Franca Sozzani and Anna Wintour.
He is has promoted the careers of many models and is considered the photographer that models aspire to work with.
As one of the most powerful photographers in fashion, Meisel has morphed our idea of beauty and high society.
Most of his work include some classic style black and white pictures of high class women.
